Something we can do

  • The ancient sages taught us to conceal other's faults and publicize their merits. This is a way to cultivate our moral conduct and to bring peace to society, hoping everyone will only see good, not evil.
  • If others are in need of materials or mental support, we should try our best to help them voluntarily, without them asking. This is an act of offering.
  • Treating parents with filial piety, and people and matters with respect is the conduct of a Buddha, Bodhisattvas, Saints, and Sages. Sadly, ordinary people think and do exactly the opposite.
  • We can get along with some people better than others due to the good affinity we have created with them in our past lives. But there are people we cannot get well with and they bring us all kind of unhappiness. This enmity between us was sowed in our past lives. When faced with enmity we have to be able to accommodate others. We work to benefit all sentient beings and rejoice at others' merits and virtues. In the process of accommodating and benefitting others, we will develop discipline, mindfulness and wisdom. This is a meritorious virtue.
